Islamabad (ANN)– Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has stated that the United States failed to gain Iran’s trust during high-level negotiations held in Islamabad on April 11, despite what he described as constructive and forward-looking proposals from the Iranian side.
In remarks posted on his official account on X, Qalibaf emphasized that Iran entered the talks with “goodwill and intention,” but longstanding mistrust—stemming from previous conflicts—remains a major obstacle. “We do not trust the other side due to experiences from the past two wars,” he said.
According to the parliament speaker, Iran’s delegation presented a series of initiatives aimed at shaping future cooperation and reducing tensions. However, he noted that the American delegation was unable to convince Iranian negotiators of its reliability during this round of discussions.
Qalibaf added that while Washington appeared to understand Iran’s logic and core principles, the responsibility now lies with the United States to demonstrate whether it can rebuild trust. He stressed that Iran’s strategy combines diplomacy with strength, describing it as a “diplomacy of power” approach designed to safeguard national interests.
The senior official also praised Pakistan for hosting and facilitating the negotiations, calling it a “friendly and brotherly country,” and extended his appreciation to the Pakistani people.
Highlighting domestic support, Qalibaf commended what he described as the “heroic people of Iran” for backing the negotiating team, as well as the delegates themselves for enduring more than 21 hours of intensive talks.
The latest developments reflect ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington, with diplomacy continuing under a cloud of deep-seated mistrust despite renewed efforts to engage in dialogue.
