Tehran (ANN) – Iran has not yet decided whether it will participate in a new round of negotiations with the United States, expected to be mediated by Pakistan in Islamabad, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.
According to Iranian News Agency (Tasnim) Speaking during a weekly press conference on Monday, Baqaei said Tehran remains cautious amid what it describes as contradictory actions from United States officials.
“So far, we have not made any decisions regarding the next round of negotiations,” he stated.

Distrust Deepens Over US Actions
Baqaei criticized Washington for what he called inconsistent behavior, saying Iran has faced “bad faith” since the beginning of the ceasefire. He pointed to disagreements over whether Lebanon was included in the truce, despite assurances from Pakistan.
He also accused the US of violating the ceasefire through “maritime actions” in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, including an alleged attack on an Iranian trade vessel.
According to Baqaei, such incidents contradict Washington’s stated commitment to diplomacy and have further eroded trust.

Iran Signals Caution Moving Forward
“Iran will make the necessary decisions based on its national interests,” Baqaei said, emphasizing that Tehran remains wary following what he described as repeated betrayals of diplomatic efforts.
He added that Iran’s leadership and institutions are closely monitoring developments, warning that even diplomatic channels require vigilance.

Background: Escalation and Ceasefire
The tensions follow a major escalation involving the United States and Israel, which Iran says began after the assassination of Ali Khamenei on February 28, along with several senior commanders and civilians.
Subsequent military exchanges saw widespread airstrikes and retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting US and Israeli positions across the region.
A ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, came into effect on April 8, halting two weeks of intense fighting. However, recent incidents have raised concerns about its durability.
