KAAH and KULMIYE Step Up for Kidney Patients as Dialysis Crisis Sparks Debate

Hargeisa (ANN) – Somaliland’s two opposition parties, KAAH and KULMIYE, separately visited Hargeisa General Hospital on Thursday after kidney patients publicly complained about dialysis services, announcing donations of dialysis machines to help address the reported shortage.
The visits followed growing public concern over the hospital’s kidney dialysis unit, where patients had appealed for urgent assistance, saying that several dialysis machines were not functioning properly.
A delegation from the KULMIYE Party, led by First Deputy Chairman Abdicasis Mohamed Samale and senior party officials, met with patients and hospital management. During the visit, the party announced the donation of two dialysis machines to support the hospital’s kidney treatment unit.
Later, KAAH Party Chairman Mohamud Hashi Abdi also visited the dialysis ward, where he met patients and healthcare workers. He announced that KAAH would donate one dialysis machine to Hargeisa General Hospital, saying the party wanted to contribute to improving access to life-saving treatment for kidney patients.
The announcements came a day after President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) visited the hospital following complaints from patients over dialysis services.
The opposition parties’ donations generated widespread discussion among the public. Some commentators argued that the initiatives reflected the urgency of the healthcare challenges facing kidney patients, while others said providing essential medical equipment is primarily the responsibility of the government. The government has previously said it is working to improve healthcare services and address the concerns raised by patients.
