GAROWE (ANN)— A statement circulating on social media has reignited political tensions in Somalia after alleging that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is involved in efforts to destabilize Puntland and influence security developments in the Horn of Africa.
The document, which has not been independently verified, claims that President Hassan Sheikh held discussions in Djibouti with Ismaïl Omar Guelleh regarding regional political and security matters. The statement further alleges attempts to weaken Puntland’s security position and create conditions that could benefit extremist groups operating in the region.
The claims emerge amid a period of heightened political disagreement between Somalia’s Federal Government and Puntland authorities. Relations between Mogadishu and Garowe have deteriorated in recent months over constitutional changes, governance issues, and disputes concerning the federal system. Puntland leaders have repeatedly accused the federal government of interference in regional affairs, allegations that Mogadishu has rejected.
Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has previously criticized the federal administration, accusing it of undermining federalism and creating political instability, while the federal government insists it remains committed to Somalia’s unity and national interests.

No evidence has yet been presented publicly to substantiate the allegations contained in the circulating statement. Neither Villa Somalia nor the Government of Djibouti had issued an official response to the specific claims at the time of publication.
Political observers say the controversy reflects broader tensions within Somalia’s political landscape, where disagreements over constitutional reforms, security policies, and relations between the federal government and regional administrations continue to dominate public debate.
