Ethiopia: War Moves Towards Wollo Dessie Strategic Town, TPLF Spokesperson Getachew Reda Discusses Situation

Araweelo News Network.

Addis Ababa (ANN)-The war situation in Ethiopia has deteriorated, and there are mobilizations on the Wollo capital Dessie, where the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) and the federal government forces are infiltrating with the help of Amhara militias along with other militias.

The town of Desssie, is of great importance to the warring parties in the Ethiopian war, which, if captured by the Tigray forces, could lead to the siege of the Amhara region, and the capture of Dessie by the Tigray would be a major victory in the war. But federal government forces and Amhara militias want to take control of the city so as not to fall into the hands of TDF forces, who have previously seized key areas in the Amhara and Afar regions.

The TPLF, in collaboration with Oromia’s most powerful rebel group, the OLF, said the agreement was reached a few weeks ago following a proposal by Tigray forces. “We have agreed on a level of understanding to co-operate with one enemy, especially military co-operation,” Diriba said, adding that this is ongoing and that they are sharing information on the battlefield and fighting side by side, although neither side. He did not fight, but said it was possible.

“The only solution now is to overthrow this government militarily, and to speak the language they want to speak,” said Oromo Liberation Army leader Kumsa Diriba, also known as Jaal Marroo, according to an interview to the Associated Press on Wednesday.

But TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda spoke about the war in Ethiopia in an interview with BBC World Service’s Hardtalk on Friday.

Getachew Reda, spoke about why the parties did not stop fighting and the consequences of the Ethiopian conflict, dismissing the ceasefire previously announced by Prime Minister Abiy’s government, which he described as unrealistic, and justified telecommunications, electricity, banks still blocked in Tigray region. He therefore argued that the ceasefire declared by the Abiy government was not true.

TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda accused the Abiy government of being responsible for the violence, genocide, rape and displacement in Ethiopia, and ruled out any TPLF fighters being involved in the genocide and baseless allegations and no trace of the Abiy government lying about what it did, he said.
