Tehran (ANN) – Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel, in a move that underscores the intensifying shadow conflict between the two longtime adversaries.
According to the judiciary-affiliated Mizan News Agency, the individual identified as Kurosh Keyvani was convicted of providing classified information to Israel’s intelligence service, the Mossad. Authorities said he had supplied photographs and details of sensitive locations inside Iran.
Iranian officials have repeatedly warned of foreign intelligence operations within the country, particularly those linked to Israel, and have carried out multiple arrests and executions in recent years tied to espionage accusations.
Conflicting Narratives Over Ali Larijani
The execution coincides with controversial and unverified reports surrounding Ali Larijani, a prominent Iranian official.
Statements attributed to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) claim that Larijani was killed in what is described as a joint Israeli and U.S. airstrike on March 17, 2026. The statement alleges that he died alongside his son and members of his security team.
Iranian sources framed the reported killing as an act of aggression, portraying Larijani as a martyr who served the nation at the highest levels of leadership.
However, these claims remain unconfirmed by independent sources, and there has been no official acknowledgment from either Israeli or U.S. authorities regarding such an operation.
Escalating Shadow War
The developments highlight the deepening “shadow war” between Iran and US also Israel—a conflict largely fought through covert operations, cyberattacks, proxy forces, and targeted strikes rather than direct conventional warfare.
Tehran has long accused Israel of orchestrating sabotage missions, assassinations, and intelligence infiltration within its borders. Israel, in turn, has consistently expressed concern over Iran’s regional influence and strategic capabilities.
Regional Implications
The combination of a high-profile execution and disputed reports of a senior official’s death adds to an already volatile regional environment. Analysts warn that misinformation, competing narratives, and limited transparency could further escalate tensions.
As events unfold, the situation remains fluid, with the potential to impact broader geopolitical dynamics across the Middle East.
