Tehran (AN N)– An Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed for Switzerland on Saturday evening for talks with the United States on implementing commitments contained in a recently signed memorandum of understanding.
According to a source close to the negotiating team cited by Fars News Agency, the delegation includes several specialized committees similar to those that participated in previous rounds of negotiations.
Among the senior officials accompanying the team are Abdolnasser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, who heads the economic committee, and Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) that the delegation would travel to Switzerland “within the next few hours.”
The talks are expected to focus on mechanisms for implementing the commitments agreed upon under the memorandum of understanding signed recently between Tehran and Washington. The inclusion of economic and security officials in the delegation indicates that discussions could extend beyond political issues to financial and strategic matters.
Switzerland has long served as a neutral venue for diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States, which have lacked formal diplomatic relations since 1980.
