Islamabad (ANN ) – Iranian and American negotiating teams are expected to hold crucial talks on Saturday at the Serena Hotel in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, in a renewed effort to ease tensions between the two countries.
According to reports from Tasnim correspondents in Islamabad, the Iranian delegation will first meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before any direct engagement with the United States.
Iranian Delegation Arrives with Key Leadership
The Iranian team is headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes senior officials across multiple sectors. Among them are Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who will lead the political committee, and Abdolnaser Hemmati, heading the economic team.
Also part of the delegation are Admiral Ali Shamkhani, overseeing military discussions, and Esmaeil Baghaei, responsible for legal affairs.
US Delegation Already in Islamabad
The American delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, has already arrived in Pakistan ahead of the Iranian team. Reports indicate that a large accompanying group has been stationed at the U.S. embassy in Islamabad in preparation for the talks.
The American delegation, led by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, is accompanied by an unusually large group of around 300 individuals, though the roles and activities of many within the delegation remain unclear. While a core group is expected to directly participate in the مذاکرات, it is not yet known what responsibilities the rest of the entourage will undertake, raising questions about whether they are involved in parallel diplomatic, security, or logistical operations during the visit.
Talks Conditional on Pre-Agreed Terms
Sources say the negotiations will only proceed if the United States agrees to Iran’s previously stated preconditions, including a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian financial assets.
If those conditions are accepted, formal talks are expected to begin later on Saturday at the Serena Hotel.
A Critical Diplomatic Moment
The planned meeting marks a potentially significant moment in efforts to reduce escalating tensions in the Middle East. However, uncertainty remains over whether both sides can bridge longstanding differences and move toward meaningful agreements.
Pakistan’s role as host highlights its growing involvement in facilitating dialogue between major global actors amid a fragile regional security environment.
