HARGEISA (ANN)— The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has denied US President Donald Trump’s claim that Washington is engaged in backchannel talks with Iranian military officials, describing the statement as a product of what it called US frustration following the war with Iran.
Speaking to Iran’s Tasnim news agency on Monday, IRGC Spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said there are no talks between IRGC officials and the United States, including through diplomatic channels.
“There is no dialogue taking place between IRGC officials and the Americans,” Mohebbi said.
He characterized Trump’s claim as “fantasies” stemming from what he described as the “delusions and nightmares” associated with defeat and desperation during the conflict.
Mohebbi said the IRGC represents the power and position of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic, adding that the force communicates its position through its actions on the battlefield.
According to the spokesman, diplomatic matters are handled by other branches of Iran’s government. He said information available to the IRGC, together with statements from Iranian Foreign Ministry officials, indicates that no negotiations with Washington are currently taking place.
IRGC Cites Broken Promises
Mohebbi attributed the absence of diplomatic talks to what he described as Washington’s broken promises and repeated violations of previous agreements.
He also accused President Trump of using public statements about possible negotiations to influence international oil and energy markets.
“Trump’s mental fantasies will not help him on the field,” Mohebbi said.
The IRGC spokesman further argued that Washington’s only viable course, from Iran’s perspective, is to acknowledge what Tehran considers its defeat and accept Iran’s stated conditions.
“The sooner and faster the Americans accept their failure and make decisions accordingly, the more they can save their country from greater and heavier losses,” he said.
