Massive Funeral Procession in Iran’s Holy City of Qom as Mourning for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Continues

QOM, Iran (ANN) – Millions of  people  mourners gathered Tuesday in the holy city of Qom as funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, continued following the historic procession held in Tehran a day earlier.

The ceremony began at dawn with funeral prayers at the Jamkaran Mosque, led by senior cleric Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli. The funeral procession then moved along Prophet Mohammad Boulevard toward the shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masoumeh, where vast crowds of mourners assembled to pay their final respects.
Iranian state media described the turnout as one of the largest public gatherings in recent history, while images from Qom showed extensive crowds lining the streets. Delegations from several Muslim-majority countries, including Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan, also attended the ceremonies.
The Qom ceremony follows Monday’s funeral procession in Tehran, where large crowds participated in the national farewell for Khamenei. Funeral events began last week with the arrival of foreign delegations and continued with religious commemorations at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Musalla.
According to the announced schedule, additional memorial ceremonies will be held on Wednesday in the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala before the late Iranian leader is laid to rest at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, Brigadier General Esmaeil Qaani, said the planned funeral ceremonies in Iraq would reinforce the religious and historical ties between Iran and Iraq. In a statement released Tuesday, he described the ceremonies as a symbol of solidarity between the two neighboring nations.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during the opening phase of the 2026 conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. His death has triggered nationwide mourning in Iran and prompted a series of funeral and memorial ceremonies across the region.
