Hargeisa (ANN) – An international report published by Horn and Red Sea News has described the Republic of Somaliland as an emerging strategic power in the Horn of Africa and a political reality that the international community can no longer ignore.

The report, cited by local media, stated that Somaliland has spent the last 35 years building a stable democratic system, maintaining peace and achieving visible development despite regional instability affecting many countries across the Horn of Africa.

According to the report, Somaliland has successfully established modern state institutions, transparent democratic elections, effective border security and functioning public institutions that provide essential services to citizens. These achievements have elevated Somaliland into a growing strategic actor in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The report further noted that the recognition extended by Israel to Somaliland on 26 December 2025 marked a significant diplomatic breakthrough, opening the door for economic cooperation, international partnerships and increased foreign investment opportunities.

It emphasized that the diplomatic development strengthened Somaliland’s access to international institutions and global investors, contributing directly to economic growth and improved governance.

Special attention was also given to the strategic importance of Port of Berbera, which the report described as an increasingly vital hub for international maritime trade and Red Sea shipping routes.
“Somaliland has reshaped the geopolitical map of the Red Sea and emerged as a central hub for maritime movement.

President Cirro’s leadership has focused on trade, security and the rule of law, transforming the question from ‘Does Somaliland exist?’ to ‘How far can Somaliland’s influence reach?’,” the report stated.

In its conclusion, the report described Somaliland in 2026 as a rising strategic force in the Horn of Africa whose stability, expanding Berbera Port, growing international partnerships and security capabilities are reshaping the political and economic dynamics of the Red Sea corridor and East Africa.
