Helsinki, Finland (ANN) – A delegation led by the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Somaliland, Muuse Hassan Yusuf, accompanied by members of the Commission, has concluded an official visit to Finland aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of democracy, electoral administration, and institutional development.
During the visit, the delegation held a series of high-level meetings with Finnish institutions and officials engaged in democratic governance, election management, and public administration. Discussions took place with representatives of Finland’s Electoral Commission, Parliament, DEMO Finland, the Vantaa Municipal Council, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and members of the Somaliland community residing in Finland.
The meetings focused on enhancing cooperation between Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission and Finnish institutions, particularly in the areas of electoral administration, democratic development, institutional capacity building, and the exchange of expertise on modern election management systems.
The Somaliland delegation provided detailed briefings on the country’s democratic progress and electoral achievements, highlighting Somaliland’s successful record of conducting peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections. The Commission also shared its strategic plans and objectives for further strengthening and modernizing Somaliland’s electoral system.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued partnership and collaboration through training programs, technical assistance, professional exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives designed to support democratic processes and electoral development.
The National Electoral Commission expressed its appreciation to the Finnish institutions and the Somaliland community in Finland for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the delegation throughout the visit. The Commission noted that the visit reflected the strong and growing relationship between Somaliland and Finland-based democratic institutions.
The visit concluded in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation, with all parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening future partnerships and supporting democratic governance through continued engagement and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
