Hargeisa(ANN) –Somaliland hosted a high-level Israeli delegation that held meetings with several government officials to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the health sector. During the visit, the delegation toured a number of public and private institutions, including government hospitals and healthcare facilities, where members assessed medical services, reviewed ongoing development needs, and explored opportunities for future collaboration aimed at strengthening healthcare and other areas of mutual interest between Somaliland and Israel.
Somaliland’s Minister of Health Development, Hussein Bashir Hirsi, on Friday received a high-level delegation from Israel at the ministry’s headquarters in Hargeisa to discuss expanding cooperation in the health sector.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health Development, the minister was joined by the Director of the Planning and Policy Development Department, the Director of Public Health, and the Head of the Ministry’s Regional Relations Department.
The ministry said the two sides held extensive discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in healthcare, improving medical services across Somaliland, and developing joint programs aimed at enhancing the country’s health system.
Minister Hussein Bashir Hirsi welcomed the Israeli delegation and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to building stronger partnerships that contribute to improving healthcare services for the people of Somaliland. He said the ministry is prepared to implement practical cooperation programs with Israeli partners.
Members of the Israeli delegation expressed appreciation for the opportunity to visit Somaliland and said they are ready to cooperate on initiatives designed to improve the quality and accessibility of health services.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured Hargeisa General Hospital, Mohamed Adan Sheikh Children’s Hospital (MAS), and Gargar Hospital, where they reviewed healthcare services, inspected various departments, and assessed areas where additional cooperation and support could strengthen medical care. The ministry’s statement did not specify whether the delegation visited other health facilities or how long the delegation would remain in Somaliland.
The visit comes as relations between Somaliland and Israel continue to deepen following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland last year and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides. Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro recently visited Israel, where agreements were reached covering cooperation in healthcare, water resources, and economic development.
The opening of Somaliland’s embassy in Jerusalem following the visit has attracted regional and international attention, with the move contributing to political debate and diplomatic tensions in parts of the region.
