Hargeisa (ANN)– The Republic of Somaliland is preparing to commemorate its annual National Day on 18 May Somaliland Independence Day under the official slogan “Knowledge and Endurance.”
The theme reflects a renewed national focus on education, perseverance, and collective strength, as citizens across the country and in the diaspora prepare to celebrate the historic declaration of independence in 1991.

The slogan underscores the importance of building a knowledge-based society while maintaining the resilience that has defined Somaliland’s journey over the past decades.
Government officials, civic leaders, and cultural organizations have emphasized that this year’s message is intended to inspire youth, educators, and professionals to prioritize learning and innovation, while also recognizing the endurance shown by the people of Somaliland in maintaining peace, stability, and self-governance.

The annual 18th May celebrations are expected to include parades, cultural events, and public gatherings in major cities, particularly in Hargeisa, where national leaders traditionally address the public. The day serves not only as a remembrance of Somaliland’s declaration of restored sovereignty but also as a moment to reflect on progress and future aspirations.
