Nairobi (ANN) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building stronger partnerships with the international community through investment, sustainable economic cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Speaking after an important meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, with representatives of the international community and several international organizations, President Cirro said Somaliland’s future development strategy is based on creating mutually beneficial partnerships rather than relying on long-term foreign assistance.
“We seek cooperation founded on mutual interests, investment, and sustainable partnerships instead of dependence on foreign aid and handouts,” the President said, emphasizing that Somaliland is ready to work with international partners on projects that promote economic growth, infrastructure development, trade, education, energy, agriculture, and job creation.

The President noted that Somaliland has maintained peace, democratic governance, and institutional stability over the years, creating an environment that offers opportunities for responsible international investment. He said his administration is focused on strengthening transparency, improving the investment climate, and encouraging private-sector partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.
Addressing the situation in Lasanood, President Cirro reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to resolving the issue through dialogue, consensus, and peaceful means. He stressed that his government believes lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiations, mutual understanding, and respect for the interests of all communities.
He added that Somaliland remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at promoting reconciliation, stability, and security while avoiding actions that could undermine the prospects for peaceful resolution.
During the discussions, Somaliland also presented what the President described as significant opportunities for international investment across key sectors, including ports, transport infrastructure, renewable energy, fisheries, livestock, mining, digital technology, and tourism. He said the government’s development agenda is built on equal cooperation, mutual respect, and shared economic interests with international partners.
The Nairobi meeting forms part of Somaliland’s broader diplomatic outreach aimed at strengthening relations with development partners, attracting foreign investment, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing Somaliland’s role as a stable and reliable partner in the Horn of Africa.
President Cirro concluded by reaffirming that Somaliland remains open to constructive engagement with the international community and welcomes partnerships that contribute to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development for the benefit of its people and the wider region.
