Hargeisa (ANN) – In a landmark joint session of both houses of Parliament, Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) presented a comprehensive report outlining the nation’s progress and future direction, emphasizing achievements in security, governance, economic development, and international diplomacy while acknowledging ongoing challenges.
Addressing senior state officials, lawmakers, and representatives from across society, the President described Somaliland as a “beacon of stability, security, and democracy” in the Horn of Africa, noting that despite internal and external pressures, the nation continues to advance its state-building agenda.

Ensuring timely elections under the supervision of the National Electoral Commission
He warned that election delays could damage Somaliland’s democratic credibility and international reputation.
Plans are also underway to:

Recognizing livestock as the backbone of the economy, the government:

Treated 3 million animals
Reopened 63 veterinary centers
Expanded agricultural support with irrigation systems and farmer training
In fisheries, hundreds of fishermen received modern equipment and training to boost production.
Infrastructure and Public Services
Major infrastructure developments include:
Ongoing construction of Hargeisa–Balli Gubadle and Borama–Baki roads

Promotion of youth innovation through annual tech competitions

Diplomatic Breakthrough and Recognition Push
A major highlight of the address was Somaliland’s growing international engagement.
President Irro revealed that Israel has officially recognized Somaliland, calling it a “historic step” toward broader international recognition.
The government also intensified participation in global forums such as:
World Governments Summit (Dubai)
World Economic Forum (Davos)
He stressed that recognition would unlock:
Foreign investment
Access to international financial institutions
Stronger security partnerships

Climate Challenges and Social Development
The President warned of ongoing climate threats, including drought and environmental degradation. In response:
Over 600,000 trees were planted
Climate adaptation training programs were launched
