Tehran (ANN)- An informed source has warned that any attempt by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz could trigger wider regional consequences, including risks to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, the source dismissed recent U.S. threats as ineffective, stating that such rhetoric no longer carries credibility and could escalate tensions rather than resolve them.
âThreats of this kind will not improve the process of resolving disputes,â the source said, warning that further escalation could disrupt global energy flows and international trade routes.
The remarks follow statements attributed to Trump suggesting that the U.S. Navy could impose an immediate blockade on vessels entering or exiting the Strait of Hormuzâone of the worldâs most critical oil transit routes, historically accounting for nearly 20% of global oil shipments.
Analysts note that any confrontation affecting Hormuz could have ripple effects across nearby strategic corridors, particularly the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and is vital for shipping between Europe and Asia.
Important Context
Control of these waterways is not absoluteâthey are governed by international maritime law and heavily monitored by global naval forces.
Any blockade or disruption would likely trigger international response, not just a bilateral conflict.
