President Cirro Launches Somaliland’s 2025/2026 National Certificate Examinations as Over 42,000 Students Sit for Tests

HARGEISA, Somaliland (ANN) – Thousands of students from Grade 8 intermediate schools and Grade 12 secondary schools across the Republic of Somaliland officially began sitting for the 2025/2026 National Certificate Examinations on Saturday.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), officially launched the examinations at Farah Omar Secondary School in Hargeisa. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Science and the Somaliland National Examinations Office.
Somaliland’s Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, welcomed the President and highlighted a significant increase in the number of students taking the national examinations this year.
According to the Minister, more than 3,000 additional students are sitting for the examinations compared to the previous academic year, reflecting the continued expansion of educational opportunities and the growing number of students reaching the final levels of intermediate and secondary education.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, President Cirro described the national examinations as a cornerstone for assessing students’ academic achievement and the quality of Somaliland’s education system. He praised students for their commitment and hard work throughout the academic year and wished them success in their examinations.
The President also urged parents, teachers, and the wider community to support students by ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and conducive environment throughout the examination period.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Somaliland National Examinations Office, Daud Ahmed Farah (Daud Gadhweyne), announced that a total of 42,519 students are sitting for this year’s examinations nationwide.
He stated that the National Examinations Office had completed all necessary preparations and logistical arrangements to ensure the examinations are conducted efficiently, fairly, and in accordance with established national standards.
The Chairman also expressed appreciation to security agencies, teachers, supervisors, and all personnel involved in facilitating the examination process across Somaliland.
