President credits King Charles III and Queen Camilla for breakthrough in long-running trade issue

Washington (ANN) – Donald Trump has announced plans to remove tariffs on Scottish whisky imports, following a recent visit to the United States by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The decision marks a significant shift in transatlantic trade relations, particularly for Scotland’s whisky industry, which has long been affected by a 10% tariff imposed during earlier trade disputes.

The United States remains the largest export market for Scotch whisky, making the move a major boost for producers.
In a statement shared on his platform Truth Social, Trump said the decision came “in honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom,” praising their influence during their White House visit. He added that the royal couple succeeded in achieving “something that nobody else was able to do.”
Trump also emphasized the deep economic ties between Scottish whisky producers and American bourbon makers, particularly in Kentucky. Many Scotch distilleries rely on American oak barrels previously used in bourbon production, highlighting a longstanding взаимdependence between the two industries.
The removal of tariffs is expected to revive exports and strengthen trade cooperation between the United Kingdom and the United States. Both the Scottish and UK governments had been lobbying for years to end the restrictions, citing the importance of the whisky sector to the national economy.
Industry experts believe the move could lead to increased investment, job creation, and expanded market access, especially for smaller distilleries seeking to grow their presence in the US.
The announcement also underscores the soft power influence of the British monarchy in international diplomacy, as the visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla appears to have accelerated a policy shift that had stalled for years.
