The Hidden Threat of Chinese Mineral and Real Estate Infiltration in Somaliland (2024–2025)

INTRODUCTION
A dangerous and deeply alarming trend has emerged for the first time in Somaliland’s modern history: Chinese mineral and real estate companies, secretly guided by opportunistic Somaliland businesspeople, have begun penetrating our mineral-rich regions. This is not investment. This is not development. This is a coordinated infiltration operation directly aligned with Beijing’s political agenda to undermine our statehood, destabilize our sovereignty, and exploit our natural wealth. The speed and aggressiveness of this entry is unprecedented, and the danger it poses cannot be overstated.

China has never supported Somaliland. China has never respected our sovereignty. China has stood firmly with Villa Somalia, a failed administration trapped in corruption, insecurity, and foreign dependency. Now, using business disguise, China is attempting to enter Somaliland through the backdoor, using local collaborators and diplomatic cover from its ambassador in Mogadishu. This is an attack on our national integrity, wrapped in the clothing of “investment.”

1. HOW CHINA IS INFILTRATING SOMALILAND
These companies are not here by accident. They are not here out of genuine interest in mutually beneficial development. Every movement they make, from surveying gold fields to visiting lithium zones, is driven by one objective: weaken Somaliland and extract its resources for Beijing’s geopolitical machine.
Chinese agents have been:
• Entering restricted regions with GPS-mapping technology
• Taking geological samples without permission
• Recording clan structures, leadership networks, and local social dynamics
• Conducting covert movements with zero transparency

This is not business, this is espionage.

Their operations mirror the exact intelligence-gathering patterns China has used in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, where corporate fronts act as extensions of the Chinese Communist Party.

2. THE ROLE OF LOCAL COLLABORATORS
A small group of Somaliland businesspeople have allowed themselves to become tools of foreign intelligence influence. These actors have:
• Opened doors into mineral zones
• Facilitated secret meetings
• Provided transportation and shelter for Chinese agents
• Misled local communities with false promises of investment

Whether naïve or deliberately complicit, these individuals are enabling foreign interference and undermining Somaliland’s national security. Their actions constitute a direct threat to the nation and require immediate investigation and accountability.

3. CHINA’S HOSTILITY TOWARD SOMALILAND IS WELL DOCUMENTED
For years, China has aggressively opposed Somaliland’s independence while:
• Funding projects inside Mogadishu
• Shielding Villa Somalia diplomatically
• Backing Somalia’s territorial claims
• Blocking Somaliland’s recognition at international forums

China is not neutral. China is not friendly. China is not here to help Somaliland.

The arrival of Chinese companies in Somaliland is a hostile act against our sovereignty, an attempt to exploit our minerals while undermining our political existence.

4. A DIRECT ATTACK ON OUR MINERAL WEALTH
Somaliland’s mineral deposits, gold, lithium, emerald, quartz, copper, and rare earth elements, are strategic global assets. China controls 70% of the world’s rare earth supply and is desperately seeking new sources to maintain its dominance in electronics, military technology, and energy manufacturing.

If China gains a foothold in Somaliland:
• We will lose control of our mineral future
• China will extract wealth while giving NOTHING back
• Our national economy will become vulnerable to manipulation
• Beijing will shape our political decisions through economic pressure

China has destroyed local industries across Africa through exploitation. Somaliland must not become Beijing’s next victim.

5. DIPLOMATIC INTERFERENCE THROUGH MOGADISHU
Reports confirm that the Chinese Ambassador in Mogadishu is backing these covert operations into Somaliland. This proves that:
• Beijing is using Villa Somalia as a proxy
• China views Somaliland as a territory to be weakened and controlled
• Chinese involvement is part of a larger geopolitical war against our sovereignty

Somaliland must treat this as a national security emergency.

6. AGGRESSIVE POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
THE GOVERNMENT OF SOMALILAND MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY AND DECISIVELY.

A. Immediate Expulsion and Blacklisting
All Chinese mineral, construction, and real estate agents operating in Somaliland must be:
• Expelled within 48–72 hours
• Blacklisted from future entry
• Monitored to prevent further covert operations

B. Total Ban on Chinese Business Activity
Somaliland must impose an immediate nationwide ban on:
• Chinese mineral companies
• Chinese real estate developers
• Chinese contractors in strategic sectors

No licenses. No permits. No “investments.” Not now. Not ever.

C. Legal Consequences for Local Collaborators
Any Somaliland citizen who:
• Facilitates Chinese entry
• Brokers land access
• Provides transportation, translation, or negotiation services

should face criminal penalties for enabling foreign intelligence operations.

D. Reinforcement of Mineral Security
Somaliland must:
• Deploy rapid-response security teams to mineral regions
• Seal off strategic deposits from foreign access
• Establish surveillance of all foreign movements in mining zones

E. Diplomatic Counter-Offensive
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must:
• Publicly condemn China’s hostile actions
• Alert international partners about Beijing’s interference
• Strengthen alliances with pro-Somaliland nations

7. CONCLUSION: A WARNING TO THE NATION
China is not entering Somaliland as a friend. China is entering as a predator.

If we allow Beijing’s agents to infiltrate our mineral regions, Somaliland will lose:
• Its sovereignty
• Its resources
• Its independence
• Its political future

We must act NOW, with strength, unity, and national resolve.

Somaliland will not be spied on. Somaliland will not be exploited. Somaliland will not be weakened.

Our sovereignty is non-negotiable.
