The main objective for Russia is for Ukraine not to join NATO – a request not unlike how the United States would react if Mexico or Canada sought to join a military alliance akin to the former Warsaw Pact, particularly one aligned with Russia and the Kremlin. It’s reasonable to assume Washington would reject such a scenario outright, perhaps even forcibly. Interestingly, Russia has also asked for the denazification of Ukraine which again is fair enough considering the conflict with Nazi Germany during the Second World War. People should watch the several reports by the BBC’s Newsnight programme post-2014 (but pre-February 2022) which document Ukraine’s embrace of neo-Nazism; and isn’t it shocking the UK’s support for Ukraine given Britain’s historical rejection of Nazism for its obvious historical and ethical reasons?

It’s worth reflecting on how sympathetic many in Britain were to communities affected by ethnic cleansing along the Northern Irish border during the 1970s and 1980s – yet that same level of concern is rarely extended to the ethnic Russian population in Donbass (2014–2022). Instead, Western responses often involve passive support for Kyiv’s actions and outright condemnation of Russia’s intervention.
Meanwhile, NATO is frequently portrayed as a purely defensive and benevolent force, though its actions would suggest otherwise. The 2011 intervention in Libya is a case in point. NATO supported anti-Gaddafi fighters, many of whom later engaged in acts of terrorism as heinous as anything witnessed before in any conflict. One need only examine the fate of the town of Tawergha to grasp the extent of the atrocities committed by NATO-backed forces. This is just one town, in one conflict, where NATO involvement has had far-reaching and tragic consequences. Far from being a neutral peacekeeper, NATO often appears to operate more like a global military force with the goal of making incremental steps towards achieving full spectrum dominance around the globe, or, in other words, gaining one world army status.
