Dubai (ANN)- The government of the Republic of Somaliland has signed an agreement to build Hargeisa’s Eigal International Airport with a company called Maharat Investment, based in the United Arab Emirates.
Somaliland’s Minister of Civil Aviation and Airport Development Fuad Ahmed Nouh, accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency Khadar Looge, is in the UAE. The Agreement for the Construction and Modernization of the Capital Airport of Hargeisa, Egal International Airport, was signed on behalf of Somaliland by the Minister of Civil Aviation and Airports Fuad Ahmed Nouh, but the person in charge of the International Maharat Investment Company, who signed the agreement, was not mentioned his name or position in the company mentioned.
The Somaliland government, for its part, announced that the Airport Construction Agreement, worth $70 MN Seventy Million Dollars, was signed on 17 Sep 2025, at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC).
This project will be the largest investment in airport infrastructure in the Republic of Somaliland and the second largest foreign investment project after DP World’s investment in the port of Berbera.
The Somaliland government has said that work on the airport will begin within 6 months of signing the agreement.
