#Somaliland: @Court Sentences Man Accused of Killing and Rape of 18-Year-Old Girl

Hargeisa (ANN)-The Chairman of the Saraar Regional Court has sentenced Saleban Ali Arshe to death for the heinous murder and rape of 18-year-old Hodan Said Adan, in mid-November 2020, in Gunburaha, Saraar region.

Judge Sheikh Hassan said that the verdict was based on Surat al baqarah, verses 178 and 179, of the Holy Quran and the Islamic book of jurisprudence of Al Muqra al Muhtaj, of the General Penal Code. The verdict was handed down today, December 17, 2020, and an appeal is pending within the time allowed by the law, the judge announced. Hassan Salah Muse.

The verdict was issued by the consultative committee, including Sheikh Hassan Salah Muse, chairman of the Sarar Regional Court, Nuh Ahmed Mohamed Judge, Awil Jama Qodox, a public judge and Assistant Khadar Abdi Abdullahi.

Relatives of the victim, led by the father of the victim, Said Aden Dhuhul, said they were satisfied with the court’s ruling, but called on Somaliland President Muse Bihi to implement the ruling and implement the court’s decision.

In early December, a Saraar Regional court sentenced a man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Elal district in Saraar Region.

The judge of the Saraar regional court said that when announcing the verdict, the accused Adi Jama Bulale was found guilty in the case, for raping a 15-year-old girl in Elal district on 19 September 2020.

The court sentenced Abdi Jama Bulale to 13 years in prison and $ 2,000 in damages, after assessing the girl’s plight and the ugliness of the rape, after it became clear that he had committed the crime out of habit.

Authorities in the Saraar region also said another rape and murder had taken place in the area, which they said was in the process of being enforced.

Saraar Regional Court officials and authorities have warned traditional elders against engaging in such activities illegally in order to harass the victim.
