New York (ANN)- President Trump welcomes Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Mar-a-Lago for a bilateral meeting.
The meeting between the two leaders came after Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced three days ago the recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
Since December 27, 2025, Somaliland has experienced a major diplomatic shift, both confirmed and widely discussed. The international reaction has been negative, and no other countries have followed suit. But it is widely expected that other countries will follow suit and recognize the cause of the Republic of Somaliland.
President Trump welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Mar-a-Lago, where he will hold a bilateral meeting. In a brief video of the two leaders meeting, President Trump, who, unlike his usual reception of Prime Minister Netanyahu, smiled and said briefly that he congratulated Netanyahu on the hard work he had done in the last three days, which was interpreted as recognition of Somaliland for his courage in making this decision.
Netanyahu announces Israel is awarding President Trump the Israel Prize. It is the country’s highest cultural honor, and has not been won by a non-Israeli in nearly 80 years.
The two leaders will hold a special meeting to discuss the Gaza issue, the Middle East peace agreement, and the regional security situation. It is also widely expected that the issue of Somaliland’s recognition will be part of the meeting.
