Middle East (ANN) – Iran has released footage it claims shows the moment its air defense systems tracked and intercepted a U.S. stealth fighter jet over central Iran, marking a potentially significant development in the ongoing regional confrontation.

According to Iranian sources, the aircraft involved was a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II—widely regarded as one of the most advanced combat aircraft in the U.S. arsenal. Iranian officials stated that the jet was detected and engaged using what they described as a newly deployed air defense capability.

U.S. officials have not confirmed the interception claim in full. However, a spokesperson for United States Central Command, Capt. Tim Hawkins, acknowledged that an F-35 operating in the region experienced an incident during a combat mission, forcing it to exit Iranian airspace and land at a U.S. base in the Middle East.

The reported incident comes amid a surge in Iranian military activity across the Gulf and in Israel, including missile and drone operations targeting strategic sites. Analysts warn that these developments highlight a shifting balance in the confrontation, with increasing risks of escalation.
At the same time, some military observers in the United States have pointed to broader operational challenges, including the repositioning of key naval assets such as the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), as part of evolving tactical decisions rather than a retreat.
