Saopaulo (ANN)- As tensions escalate across the Middle East amid the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel, two significant political developments have captured global attention — a sharp rebuke of Washington from Brazil and the unexplained absence of Israel’s prime minister from a critical security meeting.
The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, delivered a strong message rejecting pressure from the United States to align with its strategic policies regarding the Middle East conflict. Speaking publicly, Lula emphasized that Brazil would not be dictated to by the administration of Donald Trump.
“We will not take instructions from Trump. We are not children,” the Brazilian president said, signaling a firm stance against what he described as attempts by Washington to influence Brazil’s foreign trade policies.
According to the remarks circulating widely online, Lula accused the United States of attempting to pressure Brazil to halt food exports to Spain as part of broader geopolitical maneuvering linked to the Middle East crisis. He rejected the suggestion outright, stressing that Brazil maintains strong relations with Spain and intends to preserve its economic partnerships.
Brazil is one of the world’s largest exporters of agricultural commodities, including wheat, rice, and coffee, much of which is sold globally, including to the United States. Lula warned that Brazil could reconsider exports of certain commodities to the U.S. if political pressure continues.
In a broader geopolitical message, the Brazilian leader urged Arab nations to maintain unity and independence in the face of external pressure. His remarks suggested that Washington seeks to keep the Middle East in a prolonged state of instability to maintain influence over the region’s vast natural resources — a claim that reflects growing criticism from several Global South governments regarding Western involvement in regional conflicts.
Netanyahu Missing From Crucial Security Meeting
Meanwhile, in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was notably absent from a high-level ministerial and security cabinet meeting held amid the rapidly escalating confrontation with Iran.
The meeting, attended by senior military commanders and cabinet officials, focused on the intensifying regional situation following targeted strikes on Iranian leadership figures and the subsequent wave of retaliatory missile attacks launched by Iran toward Israeli territory.
Netanyahu’s absence marks the first time he has reportedly missed such a security session since the beginning of what some regional analysts have begun referring to as the “Second Iran War.”
Israeli officials have not yet offered a clear explanation for his absence, fueling speculation across Israeli media and political circles about possible health concerns, security considerations, or undisclosed strategic consultations taking place behind the scenes.

The situation across the Middle East remains highly volatile as missile exchanges and military operations continue to raise fears of a broader regional conflict involving multiple actors.
