This factory will be the first large scale industrial project in Northern Uganda. With the biggest benefactors being women.

Kampala Uganda (ANN)-President Yoweri Museveni last week officially launched a $ 120 million sugar factory project funded by Somali-born Dr Amina Hersi.

A Senior officials from Kenya, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, South Sudan and other bussiness sectors were attended at the oppining ceremony.

After inauguration, The CEO and Investor Dr. Amina Hersi Moghe  receives congratulations from so many prestigious parties from the world corners. This include The Common Wealth Enterprise and Investment Council who congratulates Dr. Amina for commissioning this viable mega Project Atiak Sugar Factory.

President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni commissioned the factory last week saying that the launch of Atiak Sugar Factory, apart from helping stabilize the prices of sugar in Uganda and boosting export stock, comes with a number of economic spillover effects. The Amuru district-based factory is owned by entrepreneur Amina Moghe Hersi and the government, which holds 41% stake through the Uganda Development Corporation.

The factory will employ 2,000 workers and will have an impact on more than 20,000 people and their families, and is expected to have crushing capacity of 1,650 metric tonnes of sugarcane daily with co-generation of 6 megawatts of electricity. Future production is expected to increase to 3,500 metric tonnes of sugarcane daily with co-generation of 27 megawatts.

This factory will be the first large scale industrial project in Northern Uganda. With the biggest benefactors being women who are working in conjunction with Amina in the factory’s development, primarily as sugar-cane out growers and main distributors of the final product once production begins.

Over 6,000 women in the region are expected to benefit directly and indirectly from the project.
