Somaliland President Attends 32nd Anniversary of National Army Founding

Hargeisa(ANN) — The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), today attended the commemoration of the 32nd anniversary of the founding of the Somaliland National Army, held in Hargeisa.

This event, which was officially organized, was informed during the organization of the event last night after it was said that videos and pictures taken from inside the center were spread in the media and some social media, which greatly angered the community. It is not yet clear who is responsible for the release of the images from the command center and whether anyone has been punished.

In his keynote speech, President Cirro delivered remarks that resonated strongly with members of the National Army and the wider Somaliland community. He highlighted the historic struggle, courage, and unforgettable role played by the Somaliland National Army in defending the nation, its independence, and national security.

The President prayed for mercy upon all commanders, leaders, and soldiers who lost their lives in defense of the country, stating:
“To the parents, the children and the orphans left behind, I say “Daljir” will not die. You have a history to be proud of, and your children will be rewarded, Insha Allah.”
President Cirro praised the National Army as the most important pillar of the existence of the Republic of Somaliland, saying:
“Speaking on behalf of my fellow citizens, I can confirm with confidence that the National Army is the institution most loved by our people among all Somaliland government institutions.”

The President also paid tribute to traditional leaders, political figures, military officers, business leaders, and community leaders who contributed to mobilizing youth during the liberation struggle and rebuilding the national forces. He emphasized that Somaliland was built through unity, self-reliance, and determination.
“We did not build our government by relying on foreign countries. We united our wisdom, our knowledge, and our resources. The beautiful Somaliland admired today was born from our unity.”

Speaking about the dignity and respect owed to the National Army, the President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening and developing the armed forces.

“This government is built to protect the honor and dignity you deserve from your country. We will not allow anyone to undermine your respect. My government attaches great importance to building and developing the National Army based on our own strength.”
The President also reaffirmed his pledge to serve the people with integrity and transparency, stating:
“To our honorable troops and to my beloved people, I promise that while I am in office my primary goal will be to serve you with honesty, transparency and according to your will. I do not seek to write my name on your property, but in your hearts.”
The ceremony also included speeches from senior military and government officials, including the Commander of the Somaliland National Army, Brigadier General Nim’an Yusuf Osman, and the Minister of Defense, Mr. Mohamed Yusuf Ali. Their speeches focused on historical reflection, appreciation of the armed forces, and future vision for strengthening national defense.
