Tehran (ANN) – Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, has accused the United Arab Emirates of serving as the launch location for recent U.S.–Israeli strikes targeting Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf, warning that Tehran reserves the right to retaliate.
In an interview with Iranian media, Araghchi said the latest attacks on Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island were carried out using the M142 HIMARS rocket system launched from locations inside the UAE.
According to the Iranian diplomat, Iranian monitoring systems tracked the rocket launches to two areas within the UAE, including the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and another location near Dubai.
“They attacked Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island using HIMARS rockets fired from the territory of our neighbors,” Araghchi said, describing the alleged use of neighboring territory as “absolutely unacceptable.”
He added that launching rockets from densely populated areas was particularly dangerous, saying Iran would respond but aims to avoid targeting civilian populations.
Strait of Hormuz Restrictions
Araghchi also addressed the situation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global oil shipments.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, the waterway has only been restricted to vessels belonging to what he described as Iran’s enemies and their allies, while other ships remain free to pass.
He said several tankers continue to navigate the strait, though some companies have reportedly chosen alternative routes due to security concerns.
Iran Says It Is Defending Itself
Tehran maintains that the ongoing conflict began after what it calls aggression by the United States and Israel earlier this year.
Araghchi stated that Iran would continue defending its territory and sovereignty.
“We did not start this war,” he said, describing the conflict as an illegal act of aggression against Iran.
He emphasized that Iran intends to continue military and diplomatic efforts until the conflict ends under conditions that prevent future hostilities.
Regional Tensions Rising
The accusations against the UAE add a new dimension to an already volatile regional crisis. If confirmed, the claims could further widen tensions between Iran and several Gulf states and increase fears of a broader conflict in the Persian Gulf region.
International observers are closely monitoring the situation as military actions, political statements, and counter-claims continue to emerge from multiple sides in the escalating confrontation.
