Tehran, April 4, 2026 (Araweelo News Network / Agencies) — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed a significant air defense success, announcing that its forces shot down a fighter jet along with five unmanned aerial systems during a single day of intense military engagement.
In a statement released Friday night, the IRGC described the operation as a “dark day” for both United States and Israeli air forces, citing what it called a large-scale aerial confrontation across multiple regions of Iran.
According to the IRGC, its Aerospace Force intercepted and destroyed several incoming threats, including cruise missiles and advanced drones. The statement detailed that two cruise missiles were downed over Khomein and Zanjan, while two MQ-9 attack drones were intercepted over Isfahan. Additionally, a Hermes drone was reportedly shot down near Bushehr.
The IRGC further claimed that its air defense units successfully brought down an advanced hostile fighter jet in central Iran, though no independent confirmation has been provided.
Officials said the interceptions were carried out using Iran’s integrated air defense systems, highlighting what they described as improved surveillance, precision tracking, and rapid response capabilities.
“The skies of Iran will become increasingly unsafe for hostile aircraft,” the statement warned, emphasizing continued vigilance and technological advancement in the country’s defense network.
The developments come amid a rapidly escalating conflict following the reported assassination of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, on February 28. Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of orchestrating a large-scale military campaign targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.
Since then, the region has witnessed intensified hostilities, with Iran launching retaliatory strikes against U.S. and Israeli-linked targets using missiles and drones.
The situation remains highly volatile, with analysts warning of the potential for broader regional escalation as both sides continue to exchange military actions.
