Tehran (ANN) – Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Thursday that it has shot down two armed drones and intercepted a cruise missile in multiple locations across the country, underscoring rising military tensions in the region.
According to an official IRGC statement, an Orbiter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was destroyed in the airspace over Tehran at approximately 23:50 local time on Wednesday. The force added that an advanced Heron drone was also intercepted and downed over Nazarabad in Karaj.
The IRGC emphasized that both drones were armed and neutralized before they could carry out any military operation inside Iranian territory.
In a separate development, Iranian air defense systems reportedly intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile over Koohin in Qazvin Province. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Iran’s integrated air defense network, which officials described as “advanced and fully coordinated.”
The incidents come amid heightened hostilities following what Iranian authorities describe as a large-scale military campaign launched by the United States and Israel after the assassination of Ali Khamenei on February 28.
Iran claims the attacks targeted both military and civilian infrastructure across the country, resulting in casualties and significant damage. In response, Iranian armed forces have carried out retaliatory strikes against American and Israeli positions, including missile and drone attacks on strategic locations in what Tehran refers to as “occupied territories” and regional bases.
The situation continues to evolve rapidly, raising concerns of a broader regional escalation.
