Tehran / Mogadishu (ANN) – The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a strong warning to the Government of the Somalia regarding the potential use of Somali territory, particularly the Port of Mogadishu, for foreign military operations that Tehran says could threaten its national security.
In a press release dated March 6, 2026, and issued from Tehran, Iranian authorities warned that any use of Somalia’s strategic infrastructure for military actions against Iran or its allies would be considered a direct provocation.
The statement stressed that if the Port of Mogadishu or other locations inside Somalia were used for operations targeting Iran, such actions could trigger a serious response from Tehran.
Iranian officials also warned against expanding military cooperation between Somalia and foreign powers, specifically referencing the United States and its allies. According to the statement, if Somali territory were used in a way that threatens Iran’s security, the locations involved could become legitimate military targets.
The warning was reportedly issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which emphasized that Iran would not tolerate actions that endanger its national security. The statement further declared that any attempt to transform Somalia into a military platform for operations against Iran would be met with an immediate, firm, and decisive response.
The message comes amid rising regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, with strategic waterways and ports in the region gaining increasing geopolitical importance.
Somali authorities have not yet issued an official response to the statement.
