TEHRAN (ANN) – Iran’s Foreign Minister has reaffirmed that diplomacy remains the sole solution to concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program, signaling a possible meeting with U.S. negotiator Steve Witkoff in Geneva later this week.
Speaking to CBS News on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Iranian negotiating team is actively working on drafting a framework for a potential agreement. He indicated that talks with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff could take place on Thursday in Geneva.
“If they (the American side) want to find a resolution for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, the only way is diplomacy,” Araghchi said, adding that there is still “a good chance” for a win-win diplomatic outcome.
He stressed that military build-ups or threats would not contribute to resolving the dispute and reiterated that negotiations remain the most effective route.
Draft Framework Under Preparation
Araghchi explained that Iran’s delegation is preparing elements of a draft proposal that would address concerns from both sides.

“We are trying to make it something which consists of elements which can accommodate both sides’ concerns,” he said.
He added that discussions in Geneva could accelerate progress toward what he described as a “fast deal,” suggesting optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement.
The Iranian diplomat also argued that a better agreement than the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, could be achieved.
Enrichment and Sovereignty
While reaffirming Iran’s right to uranium enrichment, Araghchi acknowledged that differences remain, particularly regarding Washington’s previously stated position favoring zero enrichment.
However, he emphasized the peaceful nature of Iran’s atomic program, stating that Tehran does not intend to abandon its nuclear activities but seeks to exercise its rights within an agreed framework.
Military Readiness Along Borders
Meanwhile, Iran’s military leadership underscored heightened vigilance along the country’s borders.
According to Mehr News Agency, Major General Ali Jahanshahi, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army’s Ground Forces, confirmed that all enemy movements along Iran’s borders are being monitored continuously and in real time.
During an inspection visit to the 164th Mobile Assault Brigade in Piranshahr, Jahanshahi highlighted the army’s operational readiness and described preparedness as the primary deterrent against hostile actions.
He noted that through modern equipment, enhanced tactical capabilities, and regular military exercises, Iran’s ground forces are equipped to counter asymmetric threats and safeguard national sovereignty.
Diplomatic Efforts Amid Regional Tensions
The latest diplomatic signals come amid ongoing regional tensions and international scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear activities. While negotiations appear to be gaining momentum, significant differences remain between Tehran and Washington.
Araweelo News Network will continue to monitor developments surrounding the potential Geneva talks and broader regional security dynamics.
