Hormuz as Tensions With US And Iran Escalation

TEHRAN (ANN) — Iran has set out six conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr saying the strategic waterway will remain closed until the United States changes what Tehran describes as its hostile conduct toward Iran.
In a message released Saturday, Zolqadr said: “Until America corrects its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened.”
According to the statement, Iran’s six conditions are:
End threats and insults against Iran and its national and religious sanctities.
Permanently end military action and aggression against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq.
Lift the naval blockade and withdraw U.S. naval and air forces from areas surrounding Iran.
Fully compensate Iran for damages Tehran says were caused by two wars of aggression.
Lift U.S. sanctions that Iran considers unjust and illegal.
Unconditionally release frozen Iranian assets, which Tehran describes as blocked or stolen funds.
Zolqadr said the demands reflect what he described as the position of the Iranian people, who have demonstrated continued resistance both on the battlefield and in the streets.
He also stressed that Iran’s Supreme National Security Council would not retreat from its position, “neither in war nor in negotiations.”
Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important energy chokepoints. Any prolonged disruption could affect international oil and gas shipments and increase pressure on global energy markets.
Iran’s conditions therefore raise the stakes for any future negotiations between Tehran and Washington, while also placing the reopening of the waterway at the center of the wider regional crisis.
