In a statement released Sunday, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said enemies of Iran have replicated the well-known Shahed-136 drone and are launching attacks on targets in regional countries under a new name, the “Lucas drone.”
According to Zolfaqari, the operation is part of what he described as a “malicious deception campaign” aimed at blaming Iran for attacks it did not carry out.
“The enemy, which has been defeated both on the battlefield and in forming political coalitions against Iran, has turned to deceit,” he said. “They have copied the Iranian Shahed-136 drone and are attacking unjust targets in regional countries in order to frame the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Attempt to Create Regional Division
Zolfaqari warned that the goal of the alleged operation is to sow distrust among regional governments and Muslim nations and weaken Iran’s diplomatic and military position.
“The purpose is to cultivate accusations against Iran and create division between Iran and its neighboring countries,” he said. “This is intended to undermine the legitimate defensive actions of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He urged governments across the region to exercise caution and carefully investigate attacks before assigning responsibility.
Iran Says Its Military Doctrine Is Defensive
The Iranian military spokesperson stressed that Iran’s defense doctrine is based on legal principles and focuses solely on responding to aggression by the United States and Israel.
“As the Islamic Republic has repeatedly stated, it only targets the centers, interests, and positions of the United States and the Zionist regime,” Zolfaqari said. “Whenever Iran conducts an operation, it officially announces the target and takes responsibility for the consequences.”
Alleged Attacks in Neighboring Countries
Zolfaqari also claimed that several attacks on facilities in Turkey, Kuwait, and Iraq had been falsely attributed to Iran, describing them as “mischievous operations” designed to provoke tension between Iran and its neighbors.
He urged regional leaders to respond wisely to what he called “deceptive and malicious actions” and to avoid falling into a trap that could deepen divisions across the Middle East.
“Trust, unity, and cooperation among regional nations are essential to defeat the plots of foreign enemies,” he said.
Escalating Regional Conflict
The statement comes amid an intensifying regional conflict that began after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians in a large-scale attack on February 28.
Iranian officials accuse the United States and Israel of launching a broad military campaign following the assassination, including extensive airstrikes on military and civilian targets across Iran, which Tehran says caused heavy casualties and major infrastructure damage.
In response, Iran’s armed forces have launched retaliatory waves of missile and drone strikes, targeting American and Israeli military positions in the region and in occupied territories, according to Iranian military statements.
The escalating confrontation has raised concerns among regional governments and international observers about the possibility of a wider conflict spreading across the Middle East, particularly as attacks increasingly involve military bases, energy infrastructure, and strategic shipping routes.
