FM Spokesman Condemns Damage to Golestan Palace

Tehran (ANN)— An Iranian military official has warned that Tehran could target Israel’s Dimona nuclear facility if Israel and the United States attempt to overthrow Iran’s government through what he described as “armed chaos.”
The remarks come amid intensifying hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States. The unnamed official framed the warning as a deterrent measure, stating that any direct effort to destabilize the Iranian state would trigger a decisive response.
The Dimona facility, widely believed to be linked to Israel’s nuclear program, is located in southern Israel near the Negev region. Israel maintains a long-standing policy of nuclear ambiguity and has not officially confirmed the nature of its activities there.
Cultural Heritage Damage Sparks Outrage
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei strongly condemned reported missile damage to the Golestan Palace in Tehran, blaming U.S. and Israeli strikes.
In a statement carried by IRNA, Baqaei described the attack as an attempt to erase Iran’s cultural heritage, calling the country “a cradle of history and ancient civilization.” He characterized the alleged strike on the UNESCO-listed site as a “heinous crime.”
The Golestan Palace, located in Tehran’s historic Arg Square district, is recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the capital’s most important historical landmarks.
Baqaei referenced international legal frameworks — including the 1954 Hague Convention, the 1977 Geneva Conventions, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court — arguing that attacks on cultural heritage sites constitute violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.
Regional Escalation
The statements come as the broader conflict continues to expand regionally, raising alarm among international observers. Reports indicate that hostilities have intensified across multiple fronts, fueling concerns about a wider confrontation affecting parts of the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Neither U.S. nor Israeli officials have publicly responded to the latest Iranian statements at the time of publication.
Diplomatic efforts by international actors are ongoing to prevent further escalation, as global concern mounts over the humanitarian, political, and cultural consequences of the conflict.
