Tehran (ANN) — Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stated that the country’s missile and drone capabilities are intended exclusively for “legitimate defense” against what he described as American and Israeli aggression.
In a message posted Wednesday on his X account and addressed to regional governments, Ghalibaf said Iran’s military strength is not aimed at neighboring states.
“We declare to friendly, brotherly, and neighboring countries that our missile and drone power is exclusively for legitimate defense in the face of American and Zionist aggressors,” he wrote.
Appeal to Regional Neighbors
The speaker expressed hope that cooperation among regional nations would resume once what he termed “this sedition” comes to an end, signaling Tehran’s effort to reassure neighboring countries amid escalating tensions.
His comments come days after Iran accused the United States and Israel of launching coordinated strikes on February 28 targeting multiple sites across the country. Iranian officials have described the attacks as an unprovoked act of aggression that damaged civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.
Escalating Military Exchanges
Iran subsequently launched missiles and drones toward Israeli targets and U.S. military bases in the region, describing the strikes as a proportional response under international law.
Washington and Tel Aviv have defended their actions as necessary security measures, citing concerns over Iran’s military and regional activities.
The situation has heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation, with diplomatic efforts underway in several capitals to prevent further escalation.
Regional and International Reaction
Analysts note that Tehran’s messaging toward neighboring states appears designed to prevent the conflict from widening and to discourage regional governments from aligning militarily against Iran.
No immediate response was issued by U.S. or Israeli officials regarding Ghalibaf’s latest remarks.
As tensions remain high, regional observers warn that continued military exchanges could further destabilize West Asia unless diplomatic channels gain momentum.
