Tehran (ANN)- The conflict between Israel and Iran has taken a dramatic turn following Israeli claims that a high-level strike has killed one of Iran’s top security officials.
Israeli authorities announced that Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed in a targeted operation aimed at senior leadership figures. The strike reportedly also killed Gholamreza Soleimani, a senior commander linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Basij forces.
Conflicting Reports and Confirmation
Initial reports surrounding the incident were conflicting. However, Iranian-linked media outlets, including Mehr News, later reported that Iranian authorities had confirmed the deaths of Larijani and Soleimani in the strike.
If confirmed, the قتل (killing) would represent one of the most significant blows to Iran’s senior security leadership since the escalation of hostilities began.

Trump Criticizes NATO
The announcement came as Donald Trump renewed criticism of NATO allies, accusing them of refusing to support U.S. efforts related to the ongoing conflict.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump stated that the United States “doesn’t need or want” assistance to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global النفط (oil) shipping route that has been heavily impacted by the الأزمة (crisis).
I’m disappointed in NATO,” Trump said, as tensions continue to strain Western alliances.
Iran Rejects Ceasefire, Seeks Long-Term Outcome
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi signaled that Tehran is not seeking a temporary ceasefire but rather a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Speaking in Tehran, Araghchi said Iran aims to prevent future attacks and ensure long-term security, rather than agreeing to short-term pauses in fighting.
He described the current period as both “difficult and defining,” noting that Iran has suffered significant casualties, including civilians, military personnel, and senior officials.

Escalation Continues
The reported assassination and Iran’s firm stance against a ceasefire highlight the intensifying nature of the conflict. Analysts warn that targeting senior leadership figures could further escalate tensions and trigger broader retaliation.
As the war enters a more dangerous phase, concerns are growing over regional stability, global energy markets, and the احتمال (possibility) of wider international involvement.
