“Leaders of Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti meet in Jigjiga as the Horn of Africa faces complex geopolitical challenges.”
Jigjiga (ANN) – The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, together with officials of the Ethiopian Somali Regional State, warmly welcomed the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, upon their arrival in Jigjiga, near Garad Wiil-Waal Airport.
According to official statements, the leaders are holding consultations focused on the security and political situation in the Horn of Africa, exploring solutions to current regional challenges, and strengthening economic cooperation among their countries. A statement released by Villa Somalia noted that the Somali government is prioritizing enhanced diplomatic engagement aimed at reinforcing unity, regional cooperation, and Somali national cohesion.
Upon arrival in Jigjiga, the three leaders also participated in the inauguration of a development project in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State. The project, a large hotel complex constructed in the city, was described by officials as an important contribution to local economic growth, investment, and service development in the region.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President Ismail Omar Guelleh, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud are holding closed-door consultations as part of broader regional diplomatic efforts. These reports claim the talks may be linked to recent political developments and shifting alliances in the Horn of Africa.
The Jigjiga meeting appears, according to informed sources, to be part of a broader regional political effort aimed at applying diplomatic and political pressure on Somaliland, particularly in response to its reported steps toward recognition by Israel. Sources suggest that the gathering of regional leaders was intended to demonstrate a coordinated position designed to counter or undermine that development.
Araweelo News Network sources further indicate that external actors, including Turkey, are among those actively engaged in parallel political initiatives connected to the issue, reflecting wider geopolitical interests in the Horn of Africa.
In addition, sources claim that political discussions and planning are underway to influence the internal political landscape of Somaliland.
These efforts reportedly include attempts to engage certain political figures from western regions of Somaliland, as well as selected community representatives. According to the sources, some individuals have already been contacted and briefed regarding these alleged plans.
However, no official statements have been issued to substantiate these claims.
