Nairobi(ANN)-Kenya, which recently won a non-permanent  membership of the United Nations Security Council, has launched a plan to bring Somaliland’s independence issue to the United Nations.

 

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, currently the AU Commissioner for Development and Infrastructure, and appointed Chairperson of the AU Commission, after his appointment in October 2018, is planning a motion on Somaliland’s case to the Security Council.United Nations. According to the Kenya Communications Office Twitter @kenya Liaison.

Kenya, now a non-permanent member at the UNSC, is determined to see Somaliland claim her quest for international recognition. AU High Rep for Infrastructure @RailaOdingais crafting a bill to be passed by Kenya’s @NAssemblyKE, kickstarting the process.

Somaliland ambassador in Kenya, on his part said that Kenya and Somaliland have a long history of cooperation. We look forward to building on our relationship to strengthen the many areas of interest to our people, such as the World Market today, he said, Ambbassador Bashe posted on Twitter.

“Kenya and Somaliland have a long history of partnership. We hope to build on our robust relationship in a wide range of fields that are dear to us for the benefit of our people.

In today’s global marketplace a relationships matter more than borders and we look forward to enhancing ours for the mutual benefit of our citizenry.

Somaliland acknowledges the Kenyan Govermnet intrests in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, education and the fight against terrorism. Ambassador Bashe Awil Omar, Representative of Somaliland to Kenya and Head of the Somaliland Liaison Office in Nairobi, wrote on his Twitter account.

On the other hand, Garowe Online, who wrote about this, and discussed in lengthy plans for Kenya, used the headline “Kenya is pushing for Somaliland to gain international recognition.”

Kenya has recently succeeded to become non-permanent members of the Security Council, after competing with Djibouti in a landslide victory, and will begin its mandate by January 2021.

The Country is not the first time joins the non-permanent members of the Security Council, between 1997-1998, but Kenya, the returning in after 23 years was a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

In Kenya and the Republic of Somaliland, we have no territorial and maritime boundaries, and no air border, but the two have a historic relationship that cannot be traced back to the last century when Somaliland came to power. -and, as the Horn of Africa as a model of security, development, trade, the democratic process and free elections Somaliland,  Kenya has greatly enjoyed the stability of its neighbor Somaliland, and the plight of her neighbors in Somalia over the last twenty years that has affected her security.

Somaliland’s stability, has given Kenya an appetite for cooperation, as Somaliland is the example of the Horn of Africa, and for nearly thirty years the world has been blinding itself to Somaliland, at the moment, for Kenya and others around the world. to look at it, recognizing its strategic importance.
