Hargeisa (ANN)- The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Cirro, returned to the country today after a three-week personal trip to the United Arab Emirates.
President Cirro had departed for the UAE on April 23 on what the Presidency officially described as a private visit. His return comes as Somaliland intensifies preparations for the 35th anniversary of May 18, this year commemorated under the slogan “Endurance and Recognition.”
The President was welcomed at Egal International Airport in Hargeisa by Vice President Mohamed Aw Ali, cabinet officials, and other senior government representatives.
Despite the length of the visit, the President did not publicly comment on the purpose or outcome of the trip upon his arrival.
The Somaliland Presidency had earlier maintained that the visit was purely personal.
However, during the President’s absence, various reports and public discussions circulated regarding the nature of the trip and possible meetings linked to senior leadership in the UAE.
Questions were also raised within the community concerning the objectives of the visit and whether it included unofficial diplomatic engagements.
Several related reports emerged in regional and international media during the three-week period, though some claims and circulating information could not independently be confirmed by Araweelo News Network Associated Online Agencies, particularly stories connected to meetings involving leaders of the United Arab Emirates.
The President’s return coincides with the final days of preparation for Somaliland’s annual May 18 celebrations, marking 35 years since Somaliland declared the restoration of its sovereignty in 1991.
This year’s commemoration coincided with Somaliland receiving recognition from Israel. It is expected that other countries in the region and outside the region will recognize the Republic of Somaliland which has built a complete government system with elections and democracydevelopment and stability which the world greatly admired in Somaliland without receiving any support from the rest of the world except for a small number of Somaliland’s friendly countries have supported democracy and social services.
