Tehran (ANN)- The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has mocked the United States following reports that the American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) withdrew from the vicinity of Iranian waters after rising tensions in the region.
Speaking publicly, Ghalibaf criticized what he described as Washington’s attempt to pressure Iran through military presence in the region.
“So much fuss was made about the aircraft carrier ‘Lincoln’ to put pressure on us, but it left the battlefield,” Ghalibaf said.
He went further, using a sarcastic metaphor to ridicule the U.S. naval move.
“The ‘famous bride’ left the battlefield and retreated at the first encounter with Iranian missiles and drones,” he added.
The remarks came hours after Iranian officials claimed that the aircraft carrier had been attacked during an encounter in the Sea of Oman.
According to reports by Tasnim News Agency, Iranian military officials said drones operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck the U.S. carrier while it was operating near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the carrier had approached roughly 340 kilometers from Iran’s maritime borders in what Tehran described as an attempt to manage the key shipping corridor.
According to the Iranian statement, drones from the IRGC Navy struck the aircraft carrier, forcing the vessel and its accompanying destroyers to retreat from the area.
“The aircraft carrier rapidly fled the region with its destroyers and is now about one thousand kilometers away,” the spokesperson claimed.Missile Claims

Iranian officials also said the carrier had previously been targeted during Operation True Promise 4, which was announced by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The IRGC claimed the vessel was targeted with four ballistic missiles as part of the expanding military confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Iranian military authorities described the latest phase of the conflict as a new stage in the country’s confrontation with what it called “aggressor forces,” warning that both land and sea battlefields could expand if hostilities continue.
No U.S. Confirmation Yet
As of now, officials from the United States Navy have not confirmed Iranian claims that the USS Abraham Lincoln was damaged.
The aircraft carrier is among the most powerful warships in the U.S. fleet and typically operates with a large strike group of destroyers and support vessels.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, remains one of the world’s most strategically sensitive waterways, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through it every day.
The reported incident comes amid rapidly escalating military tensions across the Middle East, raising fears that the confrontation could expand further across the region.
However, Washington has repeatedly stated that the deployment of naval forces in the region is intended to protect international shipping lanes and maintain stability. The situation remains highly volatile as both sides exchange warnings and demonstrate military capabilities.
