Beijing (ANN)- New satellite imagery reportedly captured by Chinese monitoring systems indicates that a major United States aircraft carrier strike group has repositioned farther away from the coast of Iran, as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
According to the imagery analysis circulating among regional observers, the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN‑72) has moved significantly south from its previously reported position in the Arabian Sea. The vessel is now believed to be operating near the Omani port city of Salalah, behind the coastal mountain range along the Arabian Peninsula.
The repositioning places the carrier more than 1,100 kilometers away from Iranian territory, compared with earlier reports that placed it roughly 350 kilometers from the Iranian coastline. Analysts say such a move could reduce the vessel’s exposure to long-range missile threats.
At the same time, another U.S. aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN‑78), has reportedly altered its operational route. Instead of maintaining its earlier course, the carrier group is believed to have moved south into the strategic waters of the Red Sea, operating near the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah.
Earlier this week, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) denied Iranian claims that the American warships had withdrawn from the Arabian Sea due to military pressure. Iranian officials had previously stated that missile and aerial operations forced U.S. naval forces to retreat from positions near Iran.
Last week, Iranian media outlets claimed that the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN‑72) had been targeted by Iranian missiles and aircraft, suggesting the strike forced the vessel to withdraw from what some sources described as the “battlefield.”
However, the United States has not confirmed any such attack, and American officials have not acknowledged any damage or forced withdrawal of the carrier.
Military analysts caution that satellite movements alone do not necessarily confirm combat outcomes, as aircraft carriers frequently reposition for tactical, logistical, or strategic reasons during periods of regional tension.
Nevertheless, the appearance of new satellite imagery showing both carriers operating farther from Iranian territory has intensified debate across regional media about the balance of power in the ongoing standoff between Washington and Tehran.
As the situation continues to evolve, the strategic positioning of U.S. naval assets in the Arabian Sea and Red Sea remains a key factor in the broader regional security environment.
