Chennai, India (ANN)-The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail in India said that he has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), with a hospital in the capital city of Chennai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the agreement on Saturday, Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail said it was helping Somalilanders are access health facilities in the Tamil Nadu region.

He signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chennai-based Deepam Hospitals, stating the need to assist citizens of the Republic of Somaliland travelling to the India country for medical treatment.

“It will be managed through the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce,” he said.

“Every year, about 50,000 Somalilanders visit and travel to various countries, including  India,  In the future it will be organized in a commercial office and will be mostly deployed to Tamil Nadu in line with MK Stalin’s vision of making Tamil Nadu a tourist destination, “added the Somaliland vice president.

Speaking about the impossibility of Somaliland not having an embassy in India as well as citizens traveling to Tamii Nadu, he said discussions would be held on opening a Somaliland embassy in the Indian capital New Delhi. .

There is a huge potential for trade between Somaliland and India, which is estimated at $ 600 million a year, in the areas of textiles, medicine, agriculture and other industries, he said.

Therefore, Somaliland has appointed Abdul Ghani as Special Adviser on (Economic and Trade) issues, as well as Dr Annamalai Pandian, Chairman and Managing Director of Deepam Hospitals, Special Adviser (Health Care), effective December 4.

The first step in the relationship between the two countries began with Deepam Hospital, which is launching an investment in basic health and nutrition in the Republic of Somaliland with the help of international organizations, said Dr Annamalai Pandian. “The investment is estimated at USD 100 million,” he added
