Hargeisa (ANN) – Somaliland’s National Audit Office has arrested several officials from the Burco local government over allegations of misappropriating national wealth, in what authorities say is part of ongoing anti-corruption efforts.

The arrested officials include Amin Abdillahi Yasin, Executive Secretary of Burco Local Government; Diriye Sugaal Roble, Head of Land Control; and Abdullahi Muse Mohamed, Accountant of Burco Local Government.

Also detained are municipal survey officials Mohamed Haji Muse Shire, Mohamed Ali Hirsi, and Farah Musa Saeed. Authorities further confirmed the arrest of Jama Ismail, who served as Head of Procurement for Burco Local Government.

According to the National Audit Office, the officials are accused of misappropriating public assets and will be brought before the courts as investigations continue.

The arrests were carried out as part of wider financial oversight operations conducted by the Office of the Auditor General, which is mandated to monitor public financial management and ensure accountability across government institutions.

Separately, the Auditor General of Somaliland, Musa Yusuf Osman (Idigal), who is currently on an official trip to the United Kingdom, spoke in an interview with journalist Busharo Banday, head of Somaliland Television in Europe.

During the interview, the Auditor General confirmed that investigations into corruption cases are ongoing and that several suspects linked to financial misconduct are currently in detention and will face justice through the legal system.

He added that broader plans aimed at strengthening anti-corruption enforcement and improving financial accountability across public institutions are underway.

The Somaliland government has in the past emphasized anti-corruption efforts through investigations and prosecutions led by audit and judicial institutions targeting misuse of public resources.

Also, Authorities say further updates will be provided as the legal process moves forward.
