Narendra Modi has been given the highest honor by the people of Ethiopia
Addis Ababa (ANN)’-The visit of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to Addis Ababa, the diplomatic capital of Africa, strongly highlighted a strategic relationship that is part of the change in the politics of the Horn of Africa region and the strategic challenge
When you think of Ethiopia, geopolitics may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit has put the spotlight firmly on Africa’s diplomatic capital. This wasn’t a courtesy stop – it was a strategic move rooted in 2,000 years of shared history, BRICS politics, and Global South leadership. From ancient trade links to modern investments worth billions, India–Ethiopia ties run deeper than headlines suggest integration covered by international media.
Meinwhile, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Ethiopia’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia’, during his first bilateral visit to the country.
The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the Addis International Convention Centre by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in recognition of Modi’s exceptional contribution to strengthening India-Ethiopia ties and his leadership as a global statesman.
Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Modi said it was a privilege to receive the honour from one of the world’s most ancient civilisations. He also thanked Prime Minister Abiy and the people of Ethiopia for the gesture and lauded Abiy’s efforts to promote national unity, sustainability, and inclusive development.
PM Modi highlighted the role of knowledge in nation-building and noted that Indian teachers have been contributing to Ethiopia’s progress for over a century.
Dedicating the award to generations of Indians and Ethiopians who nurtured bilateral relations, PM Modi conveyed heartfelt thanks on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians.
He emphasised that the conferment marks a milestone in the India-Ethiopia partnership and strengthens the positive agenda of the Global South.
The ceremony underscored the growing strategic and cultural ties between the two nations, with PM Modi reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia
’s development initiatives.
The two countries are in the BRCS alliance, and they share big plans, part of which is that there is no border between India and Ethiopia. The strategic plan removes Somalia from the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden connecting the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. Ethiopia also dreamed of erasing the map of Somalia and Somaliland, because there was no one between the Aksum dynasty 15 centuries ago and the Arab Islands, which were ruled by two regions at that timelocated in the territory of Yemen, and that is why Ethiopia is trying to find access to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
