Washington  (ANN)- Donald Trump said Monday that the ongoing war against Iran would be a “short-term excursion,” while emphasizing that the United States has not yet achieved complete victory against Tehran.
Speaking at a gathering of congressional Republicans at his golf club in Trump National Doral Miami, Trump defended the U.S. military campaign and signaled that operations could continue until Iran is decisively defeated.
“We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some people,” Trump said. “And I think you’ll see it’s going to be a short-term excursion.”
Trump claimed that American forces had already dealt major blows to Iran’s military capabilities, including its navy, air force, and missile program.
However, he acknowledged that Washington still seeks a greater outcome in the conflict.
“We’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough,” Trump said, calling for what he described as “ultimate victory.”
He added that the United States “will not relent until the enemy is totally and decisively defeated.”
Iranian Response
Meanwhile, Iran says it has continued retaliatory strikes following attacks on its oil infrastructure.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, Iranian forces targeted oil and energy facilities in the Israeli port city of Haifa using drones.
Iranian officials stated the attack was carried out in response to earlier strikes on oil depots, refineries, and fuel storage facilities inside Iran.
The exchange of strikes highlights the growing escalation in the regional conflict, which continues to raise concerns about broader instability across the Middle East and potential impacts on global energy markets.
