Istanbul / Ankara (ANN)– Political tensions in Turkey escalated dramatically as fierce criticism inside parliament.
In the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, a lawmaker launched a sharp attack against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, accusing him of inconsistency in foreign policy.
“You criticize Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu publicly, but support them secretly,” the deputy said during a heated session, reflecting growing frustration among some political factions.
The lawmaker went further, calling for Ankara to cut ties with the United States, shut down foreign military bases, and take a stronger stance in support of Iran amid the ongoing regional conflict.
“Enough cowardice,” the deputy declared. “We must stand with Iran against its enemies and move beyond empty condemnations.”
Consulate Attack Sparks Security Alarm
As political rhetoric intensified, an attempted attack on the Israeli consulate in Istanbul added a new layer of urgency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel condemned the incident, describing it as a terrorist act and praising Turkish security forces for their rapid intervention.
“Israel’s missions around the world face constant threats. We will not be deterred by terror,” the ministry said in a statement.
Turkish authorities reportedly acted quickly to contain the situation, preventing further escalation and reinforcing security around diplomatic missions.
Public Anger and Regional Fallout
The developments come amid rising public anger in Turkey over the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Demonstrations and political statements have increasingly criticized airstrikes attributed to the United States and Israel, particularly those alleged to have impacted civilian infrastructure.
The conflict—now in its sixth week—has amplified divisions within Turkish politics and society, with calls for stronger action growing louder.
Analysts suggest the combination of domestic political pressure, public protests, and security incidents could push Turkey toward a more assertive regional posture, though Ankara has so far balanced its response carefully.
Iran has strongly condemned the ongoing airstrikes by the United States and Israel, accusing them of targeting civilian infrastructure, including factories, historical sites, medical facilities, and key bridges. Reports from multiple sources indicate that strikes have impacted industrial and residential areas, raising serious concerns about civilian harm and damage to essential services.
Tehran has described the attacks as acts of hostility and “genocide,” arguing that the scale and nature of the strikes have shocked the international community and intensified global fears over violations of international humanitarian law according to
