London (ANN ) – Keir Starmer has launched a sharp critique of global political tensions, expressing frustration over rising energy costs and calling for an immediate halt to Israeli military strikes in Lebanon.
Speaking in an interview, Starmer said he is “fed up” with the economic pressure facing British families, linking soaring energy bills to the actions of both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. He argued that geopolitical conflicts and instability are directly impacting households and businesses across the United Kingdom.
“Families across the country are seeing their bills go up and down because of actions taken across the world,” Starmer said, underscoring the global ripple effects of ongoing conflicts.
British Prime Minister Keir according to ynetnews Starmer sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump topics Friday, appearing to compare him to Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with ITV’s political podcast, saying: “I’m fed up.”
Asked about Trump’s pre-ceasefire warning that “a whole civilization will die” if the U.S. attacked Iran’s infrastructure, Starmer said: “That is not language I would use. I’m clear that for the United Kingdom, we have our principles, we have our values, we will be guided by them in everything that we do.”
His remarks come amid continued volatility in energy markets, partly driven by tensions affecting key supply routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil shipments. Starmer stressed that ensuring free and safe navigation through the strait remains essential, adding that it is still unclear whether recent agreements will guarantee stable passage.
Call to End Lebanon Strikes
Turning to the Middle East, Starmer criticized Israel’s continued military operations in Lebanon, stating unequivocally that they are “wrong” and should stop. He framed the issue as a matter of principle rather than a technical question about ceasefire terms.
“The question isn’t whether it’s technically a breach—it’s about what is right,” he said, urging restraint despite ongoing regional tensions.
Israel, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has defended its actions as necessary for national security, particularly in response to threats along its northern border.
Tensions with Washington
Starmer’s comments also reflect growing friction with Washington. While relations between the UK and the US have historically been close, recent disagreements have emerged over military strategy and involvement in Middle East operations.
Trump has previously criticized Starmer’s leadership, accusing him of failing to take decisive action and comparing him unfavorably to wartime leaders.
In response, Starmer emphasized that the United Kingdom would not be drawn into military conflict without clear legal justification. He reiterated that British bases would not be used for offensive operations targeting civilians and stressed the importance of adhering to international law.
A Push for Energy Independence
Highlighting the domestic impact of global crises, Starmer called for increased energy resilience and independence in the UK, warning that citizens are effectively “paying for the war” through fluctuating energy prices.
He noted that while ceasefire agreements in the Middle East may offer temporary relief, their long-term effectiveness remains uncertain.
A Delicate Diplomatic Balance
Starmer’s remarks signal an effort to position the UK as both a principled and independent actor on the global stage—balancing alliances with a firm stance on international law and humanitarian concerns.
However, his comments are likely to draw mixed reactions internationally, as they touch on sensitive geopolitical fault lines involving major global powers and ongoing regional conflicts.
