HARGEISA, Somaliland (ANN) — Ahmed Duale Bulale, a veteran journalist, educator and former member of the Somaliland House of Representatives, has died in Hargeisa, according to information received by Araweelo News Network.
Bulale was regarded as one of the figures associated with the development of Somaliland’s independent press during the early 1990s, before entering active politics. He was reportedly among the early contributors to the establishment of The Republic, a daily newspaper published in Hargeisa, and later served as an editor of the daily newspaper Haatuf, which became one of the prominent publications in Somaliland’s media landscape.
Before becoming involved in journalism, Bulale had worked as a teacher, with a background in science and mathematics. He received his education at the Somali National University in Lafoole, according to accounts from colleagues and associates.
His career later moved from journalism and education into politics. In 2005, Bulale contested a seat in the Somaliland House of Representatives and became a representative from the Sool region. He subsequently served in Parliament for many years. Parliamentary records identify Ahmed Duale Bulale as a member of the House of Representatives and show him participating in parliamentary work, including a 2012 committee report on the Sool region.
Beyond his parliamentary responsibilities, Bulale was also associated with efforts to develop Somaliland’s education system and curriculum. Colleagues remember him as a person who combined experience in education, journalism and public service.
Those who worked with him describe him as a knowledgeable and articulate speaker, particularly during public discussions and political debates. His background in teaching and journalism contributed to a reputation for presenting arguments with clarity and confidence.
Arraale Mohamoud Jama, who worked alongside Bulale for many years in Somaliland’s media and education curriculum development, described him as a respected colleague whose knowledge, character and commitment to public service left a lasting impression.
Bulale’s career reflected several important stages in Somaliland’s modern public life: the emergence of an independent press in the early 1990s, the development of educational institutions and curricula, and the expansion of parliamentary politics following the establishment of Somaliland’s post-war political institutions.
His death marks the loss of a figure who participated in several of those formative chapters, moving from the classroom to journalism and ultimately to elected public office.
Araweelo News Network extends its condolences to Ahmed Duale Bulale’s family, relatives, colleagues, former students and the wider Somaliland community.
